[Sugar Detox] I Think Its Getting Easier

11. Jan, 2011 11 Comments

Belgium chocolate with orange topToday is day 12 for me on the Sugar Detox – I started on the 30th December. I haven’t strayed at all and really haven’t felt deprived as such, although I still don’t feel over sugar YET. How do I know I hear you ask? Because I saw a picture of something sweet and delicious and still thought ‘oh yum!” Granted I didn’t do anything about it, nor have I been looking for sweets to eat or food in general, Read more…

[Sugar Detox] Food Glorious Food!!!

10. Jan, 2011 2 Comments

Cyndi O'Meara Changing Habits Changing LivesYesterday I spoke about eating food closest to its natural source, there are so many great reasons why you would want to do this however many nutritionists are now recommending all kinds of non foods – like low calories beverages, artificially sweetened yogurts, low fat where ever you can get it (read low taste and satisfaction) however the reality is that the health concerns facing western culture not only persist but are getting worse!

So if the definition of insanity Read more…

[Sugar Addiction] No More of THAT Peanut Butter

09. Jan, 2011 12 Comments

Baby covered in peanutbutterWell what a fascinating journey this is, I am discovering just how much sugar there is in day to day products we consume in our modern western world without even considering it. Things like barbeque sauce is 50% sugar, tomato sauce (ketchup) is at least 25% sugar, of course it varies from brand to brand however the majority of condiments contain a great deal of sugar. The big surprise is how much sugar is added to commercially available peanut butter.

Well last post I shared with you my first day’s pain of giving up sugar – a headache! I am luckier than most I have an awesome friend who is an expert on body image and dealing with the stuff that goes on in our body and our head. On top of that she has already detoxed her body from the dreaded sugar so, I have been able to ‘lean’ on her for advice and support. She has had some Read more…

[Sugar Addiction] – Bored Without Sugar?

06. Jan, 2011 1 Comment

Bored?

When I woke up on day 4 my first thought (or close to it ) was I’m bored with this eating regime. Now that amused even me – how could I be bored? It’s not normal meals where my sugar consumption had been  happening, it was the snacking on chocolate with my cup of coffee usually in the afternoon. This happened mostly when I felt tired or stressed  - sugar was something I rarely did at breakfast time.  The ‘old’ Read more…

[Sweet Poison] Oh My Aching Head

03. Jan, 2011 15 Comments

detox headacheWell I woke up all psyched for the Sugar Detox to begin today, I shopped for some supplies so I would not be tempted by the sugary stuff still left over in the house from Christmas (it’s going to work with Glenn for his teams morning tea – first day back after new year). I have been chatting with my all ready detoxed buddy to get some tips and she has been super supportive. My main issue today has been Read more…

[Sweet Poison] Sugarholic Be Gone

Sweet Poison

Oh Sweet Poison

Well in the last post I commented that I was standing on the edge peering over as I watched my friend do a sugar detox. After purchasing the book Sweet Poison Quit Plan, I became acutely aware of what I was eating when and why (often no reason other than it was there and it was sweet). Then I found myself late last night eating a big portion of icecream, I don’t even really like icecream that much, I don’t Read more…

[Sweet Poison] Are Your Addicted to Sugar?

01. Jan, 2011 15 Comments

Sweet Poison

Oh..... Sweet Poison

In the last month a friend of mine has been doing a sugar detox, it sounded like a great idea (for her) and as a supportive friend I coached her through the occasional moment where she wanted to eat ice cream saying insightful things like ‘sure you can have the ice cream, you can have whatever you like but is it what your body really needs right now?’. The outcome – well she chose not to eat the ice cream Read more…
